We know what the death rate is at the moment based on infections vs deaths, but it might change in the future.

Guidance has been provided but it's not clear.: The death rate is becoming clearer as more cases are recorded. The bigger the sample the more reliable the data. It looks to be in the region of 3% but may be less as there may be many unrecorded cases of covid-19 as many cases are mild and sufferers may not realise they are infected and so not report. You can see the number of reported cases and resultant deaths in the WHO website status reports which are published daily.
Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Situation Reports
The daily Situation Report provides the current COVID-19 epidemiological situation and presents official case and death counts and transmission classifications worldwide. This includes a map, epidemic curve, and table allowing users to explore the latest numbers and trends at global, regional and country levels. The report also highlights important recent events and actions taken by WHO and partners.
